CyTA has recently (October 2006) began distributing a new modem/router device, the Alcatel Thompson SpeedTouch 585, that succeeds the older and never supported ECI B-FOCuS Wireless 352+ device. After the unsuccessful era of the Israeli devices, CyTA finally returns to the older and more trustworthy brand, Alcatel. Fortunately Alcatel is a well known brand with at least better support for its products compared to ECI, given that firmware updates float all over the web, and that counts for something.
It seems that CyTA is actively trying to subcontract the most-difficult-to-configure devices and does not even give the chance or technical knowledge to customers to configure the device for their own needs. It comes preconfigured to your residence or office and I am still wondering if CyTA technicians are capable or have the technical knowhow of configuring the device, or any other device of such matter. In any case this time CyTA actually bothered to setup passwords for accessing the router configuration interface to ensure that customers cannot mess with it 
(this pisses me so much), but I guess it is for the best for the not-so-technologically-literate-users-who-like-to-mess-up-every-device-that-floats-around.

ROUTER CONFIGURATION MANUAL

INTRODUCTION
As I do not have access to such a device all the information maintained on this manual are bits and pieces gathered here by other members of this blog, mainly Chris.

If you do not use the GUI Interface (that means the browser) to make changes, then to save them just issue a “saveall” command from the telnet session, that should do it! Otherwise they are autosaved!

BEFORE YOU START DO THIS:
It is always recommended to run the SpeedTouch firmware upgrade wizards with a statically set IP address on your PC with the following:
IP: 10.0.0.1, Subnet: 255.0.0.0, Default Gateway: 10.0.0.138.
ALSO
It is A MUST to have all security programmes (firewalls, antivirus) turned completely off. ESPECIALLY ANY NORTON CRAP!
AND
DO NOT TURN OFF OR RESET THE DEVICE UNLESS YOU FINISH!!
Now Download the latest firmware *CURRENT = v7.4.1.7*HERE.
Download the Upgrade Wizard HERE.
Extract the Upgrade Wizard into a folder along with the image file bli you downloaded first.
- Begin with the unit powered off via the power switch at the back depressed.
- Get a pin or a pen with a long enough nose to reach the reset button and hold it in.
- Continue holding your pin or... on the reset button and do not release it. Power the unit on by pressing the power button into the "on" state never releasing the reset.
- Hold the reset button in for around 15 seconds. The power and Ethernet light should flash between red and green.
- Run the SpeedTouch firmware upgrade wizard, click NEXT, then Have Disk and Make sure you have selected ALL FILES so that you can select the *.bli you downloaded first (select it and click next). You only have around 1min to start the wizard before the speedtouch will revert to the normal boot up, make sure ur quick or you will have to repeat!

Hi all,
I have the same problem with cyta equipment working just like a bridge, but in my case it is SpeedTouch 585. Configuration web page is on 192.168.10.254 and I am logged in as cytauser with no privileges at all – I can just see basic settings and can change nothing.
Does anyone have any user/pass combo that will let me specify which services I run on which PC on my LAN? I tried all combinations mentioned here + Administrator/blank, root/blank and nothing works.
Anybody has administrator u/n and psw for Cyta’s SpeedTouch 585.

I got the recent speedtouch 585 too.
I flashed it to the new version. 6.1.9
That was the only way to access the router fully.
However i destroyed my connection settings cyta had. I have no idea what the Routed PPPoE password is!!!! So i had to set it up as bridged again….
If you want to flash it yourself then there is only 1 way of doing this.

This works, and you can setup a new password. HOWEVER. I set it up in BRIDGE mode… I dont know how to set it up for all ports. If anyone has ideas let me know!!

hmmm, I was told about the new devices a while back, have they already begun distribution? How did you manage to get the new device? did you order it, or was it changed complementary … (if its that good maybe i’ll order one my self :p)
yeah, a video of the interface would be nice, send it over, as well as your suggestions, manuals and firmware upgrades, and i’ll have a look at it by the end of next week (need to have all the staff concentrated for simplicity reasons!).
I am still waiting for the upgrade here, due, 28 Nov 2006 (even if I was probably one of the first adsl accounts) so i’m still on the old servers
Haven’t found a working solution for mivision and wireless yet, as I don’t have much time to experiment, due to college lectures and upcomming examination requirements …

No I didn’t try to get it to work as a router as I don’t really need to, but my problem is mivision. I tried through the expert settings Router/Video Bridge and I managed to log into mivison, but I had a ‘Movie not available’ error.
Also I couldn’t get connected to the Internet.
Anyway I’ll continue trying and I’ll post any findings.

Here is an entire guide on how to setup your router to work FULLY for you !!!
(HAVE NOT TESTED THIS WITH MIVISION)
First of all you need to unlock your router if you havent. We can use this flash method to do this:

Get the upgrade wizard ready but not started. Turn off the speedtouch and using a pin hold in the reset button. Now power on but don’t let go of the reset for about 12 sec. You now have a minute or two to start the upgrade wizard which will recognise the speedtouch is already in upgrade mode and you can immediately proceed with the update.
Once the upgrade is done, DO NOT CONFIGURE YOUR ROUTER as BRIDE or any other method. Just set the password!!
METHOD 1: (The Easy One!)
You can download my router configuration and restore it in yours so all is setup and ready. This will work if you are on the new I-Choice platform. If your not then you simply have to go and update the DNS servers in your network configuration for it to work. Once you use this config , you can change all settings to your liking.

Ok, next do, START – RUN and type telnet speedtouch.lan
(if that doesnt work, then try the IP of the gateway of your current ethernet config)

hi all,i also have the new router and i’m not very satisfied with it. i wanted to open some ports because of the file sharing software and i couldn’t access all options of the router. after i saw i can’t make it because it’s locked with an uknown u/n and psw i asked my cousin for his bfocus router,because he had 2 pieces of it. but that router doesn’t connect to my computer. i don’t know why? i tried to configure it according to the guide which i found here but unsuccessfully. always the same “connection failed.” the router doesn’t release an IP for my computer. i tried to make it manually as well and nothing. router is 100% good becase i took it back to my cousin to check it there and it works properly. anyway,i need help. can somebody help me? many thanks

When you do the upgrade it asks you for a new password there
If not, then simply after the upgrade, close everything and open speedtouch.lan and login with default username admin / Admin / Administrator (one of the 3).
After you do then simply go change pass and Restore the configuration settings from my config file.

I managed to get the thing working. I can confirm now that the 1st method is working just fine. A couple of things though.
Before doing the upgrade wizard i think you must release your ip and after the whole procedure is finished you have to call cyta and tell them to have your ip released.
As soon as i had my ip released i could then log in to the i-choice portal.

Isn’t there an easiest way of portforwarding without erasing everything? No backdoor pasword?

Method 1 Works like a charm, so its all easy for everyone since i provided a configured ini file and speedtouch isnt making a fuss about it ^^
To Earthstill: You need to pay for a replacement if you ask for it…. If your current modem happens to “malfunction” (you know what i mean) then you get a replacement free.

All those that are on the NEW ichoice Platform WILL experience problems while playing online games or browsing certain websites.
This has been addressed by I-Choice, and we have no idea when they will fix this.

Just wanted to say thanks to Chris, I flashed my modem last night and everything went ok. I used the first method.
A couple of remarks:
1) after updating the firmware there is no question to change the password. By accessing the config site I was automatically logged in as Administrator. Default password was ‘admin’.
2) Also, the default LAN IP address of the modem is 192.168.1.254 and cyta had it on 192.168.10.254 before so i had to ‘repair’ my network conenection before accessing the speedtouch config site.
3) i had to try to put the modem in bootstrap mode (pressing reset and holding it) a couple of times before the update went ok. I was getting ‘cannot transfer the update to the device’ or something similar.
4) when in bootstrap mode, power led doesn’t flash red and green, it is constant orange color.

by default is set to run at cytauser with previlages user.
i dont know what previlages the other usernames have…

Ok, so please expand – at what exact point do you get Link Status: Contacting DHCP server message?
Waht is your LAN config – default gateway, dns, etc?
I dont know at this point bacause cyta replaced my modem allready.
I just followed all the instructions step by step and by entering to check the internet connection in the modem i get this message….any way…now i got a replacement and i dont intent to crack it…if something can be done from the existing usernames that i gave you…fare enough….

Anyway i believe the whole re-flashing the firmware is quite unreliable (ie. chrysanthos situation) and i wouldn’t suggest it to the average user, because it could have undesirable results.
So i wont be changing the main contents of the thread anytime soon until we can find some valid passwords for the cyta usernames.

It is not all a problem because even if something goes wrong you keep the reset button for 10 minutes and it goes back to the original configuration of the firmware you currently have. If you flashed it, you just follow my guide and thats it no problems with that…
The point is that ill try and create a firmware upgrade guide coz it seems many have problem in this…:)

hehe, well you could try accessing the setup your self then, since you have the original version. I guess most the people that replied here have upgraded the firmware already…

I have read in some forum that there is also an HP (high power) firmware version for this device that transmits Wi-Fi at twice the power (200mW) instead of the normal firmware. It is illegal in Europe top limit being 100mW) and is only distributed in USA and Singapore.
Has anyone tried that one as well ?
On the other hand since Chris is our expert on the subject here, I can hook up chrysanthos with Chris, and if the two of you are willing to, you could try the Remote Assistance feature of the new device and Chris might be able to login as any of the other usernames and open the web (80) port for chrysanthos …

the only thing i can get access to at the toolbox section are:

as most of you already have understand,i dont do very well with setups..xexexe so the best thing for me i believe, is if someone is willing to solve my problem pou konta….because i think that if i try to do the same procedure again i will have the same results as before….f..ked….

As i said i have not tryied it with MiVision….
The thing with MiVision is that it needs to connect directly to I-Choice and get an I-Choice IP without passing through the routers built-in routing features… That is something i have no idea how to enable it, but im sure 100% there is a way, because speedtouch using the CLI commands is a VERY powerfull and HIGHLY configurable router. You will loose yourself in its abilities!

I know about the HighPower firmware…. I didnt want to risk upgrading to that one as it may have damaged my SpeedTouch. I will ask around about this to find out if indeed it can be done. As for chrysanthos, i would be glad to help out if i can.

Hi guys,
did anyone else start having problems on November 21? I got a letter from Cyta giving the procedure how to access the new i-choice site. I can connect to that site, but when I want to login to Cytanet (or any other provider, or bandwidth meter) I get an error message.
I noticed some settings were changed and users deleted on my speedtouch, but nothing really important. What puzzles me is that I can access i-choice site ok, so there is no problem between my speedtouch and their side.
I talked to Cyta over the phone but they couldn’t help me – they asked me to check DNS settings (all ok) and then told me they’ll call me back when they figure out what’s wrong.

chrysanthos before messing with the configuration please save the configuration to a file and post it here so we can examine CyTA’s default settings in regard to mivision and adsl, so we can apply to upgraded firmwares.

Excellent, hopefully this configuration is for all the user (cytauser, cytadsl) accounts of the device.
I hope this configuration is the original without any modifications, I must say it is pretty f****d up, there are approximately over 100 differences between Chris’ custom configuration…
BUT, i’m pretty sure we will get through this configuration, to the updated firmware to work with mivision as well…

I updated config on my modem with chrysanthos file, and it looks a bit better (I can watch tv channels, city cams, etc on i-choice site) but I still can’t log into cytanet. (‘A system failure has occured’ message)
Now, in broadband config i have pppintenet and ipinternet – ipinternet looks ok, but in pppinternet i am disconnected and have to enter username and password. Username is ‘user’ and password is blank but it doesn’t work – when I click connect it gives me a message ‘Can’t connect – disconnected by the user’.
Anyone has any ideas?

I’ve look around the net for a solution and tried most..
They all seem to point to an invalid MTU size that needs changing to something smaller like 1492..

My situation is that I am investigating if I can enable to wireless aspect of this router for my coombaros. Other wise he is going to have to use a wireless access point and possibly a range expander whilst Cyta’s cut down wireless router is stuck on his desk. I have used the methods described to access the router with admin priviledges. But would just like to know if there are easy steps to take to complete this task. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello there…I have flashed the router/modem to this version (http://m8s-rates.com/speedtouch/routers/585v6/RELEASE%206.1.9/Software/BANT-W_R619WW_upgrade.exe) and now it only works in bridge mode! I have full access to all settings but I want to make it work as a router+firewall+wireless…Is there a way to make it work with PPPoe mode?

I have just found the following notes upon another forum. It goes on to say:

using numbers 0 to F which goes 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,a,b,c,d,e,f so 16 in total hence hexadecimal.
so anything but it looks like this for example

so this one would be set like this

write your key down!!!!!! you will need it.
now type saveall and hit enter

To get the 13 channel frequencies go in the wireless adaptor in your speedtouch configuration GUI and then do configure. It will allow you to change the channel to the setting you want. I would suggest you use “1″

So my question is how to make it work? I have aded msn messenger to game and sharing aplications list, bu no good. Nothing happened.

and what are consequences after i do this? I am not using telephone, have the line only because of the internet.

If you are on the old platform then you simply need an IP Release from I-choice. Best way to do that is call them and ask for one. If you are on the new platform, maybe try my custom configuration.
As for the wall socket, you need a filter. Without it there would be no seperation of the DATA Line with the VOICE Line so thats a definate no way of doing without a filter!

It is new telephone line setup, new thomson speedtouch from cyta and i don`t get synchronized.
When i connect old ECI Telecom adsl adapter with wireless (old one from cyta as well) to the same phone line it get`s synchronized in less than 10 secons.
I think that i am still on the old latorm because i get i-choice page on http://192.168.5.1 and on 192.168.5.2 i`m geting page can not be displayed.
Is there possibility that some parts of limassol do not support new thomson speedtouch adsl adapters?
Where should i look in order to solve the problem?

I still have the linksys wireless router from before….i can connect this to the speedtouch and my laptop sees both wireless signals, but i cannot browse the internet through linksys and the speetouch one is locked (it has a padlock next to it when i scan for wireless devices).

I want to access my office computer from home. I have a small network at home using the new thomson router and have set all the usual settings to allow remote desktop but still cant get it to connect.

I suggest you do not use the built in Remote Assistance Funtion. Instead port forward the Microsoft remote desktop ports that are needed for remote desktop connection and work with that.

I told you how to open it by default. That implies no changes to the router from what i know.
To open the wireless settings then go to http://speedtouch.lan
Then go to home devices -> Interfaces. Click on WLAN and then Configure.
There you can see all settings for wireless and setup anything you want.
*If you cannot change/see the settings login as cytadsl/cytaspeed

Thanks for your great help. I have a speedtouch 585i Router and I have two problems with it.
First, I can’t access the router if I put a password because it’s telling that the password is incorrect although I’m sure it’s correct, so I have to recnfigure the Router each time I want to make changes and strangely it accepts the same password while reconfiguring.
The secon problem is that I can’t open a port in the router for my Dreambox receiver as I did before in my old speedtouch 510 Rourter (NAPT configuration).
I wonder if you can help me in this.

As i have said in previous posts which you could have spotted if you actually read all of them,
You cannot use IE 7 with SpeedTouch 585v6 using firmware 6.1.9.6 and below.
In addition, to open a port its quite simply but yesterday i had the same problem with my new dreambox as well. The GUI interface to open ports seems buggy and doesnt open ports u need sometimes even though it shows them in the list.
I found a manual workaround in this using the CLI commands. Once you put them DO NOT forget that they are there coz you will be leaving open ports that you will have no idea about.
If you want to proceed in using the manual way then do the following:
telnet to your speedtouch (usually telnet speedtouch.lan)
Login with your admin account.
type nat and press enter
- The following command should be changed to your settings:
intf = interface type (my case Internet)
type = napt
outside_addr = ur WAN ip (in my case my I-choice IP)
inside_addr = ur Local Device IP (your dreambox)
protocol = tcp or udp (specify only 1. if you want more, redo it)
outside_port = port you want (1234 in my example)
inside_port = port you want (1234 in my example)
mode = inbound or outbound (inbound here coz outbound is allowed)
weight = 50 (that is the default weight from 0-255)
example line: mapadd intf=Internet type=napt outside_addr=10.10X.XXX.XXX inside_addr=192.168.XXX.XXX protocol=tcp outside_port=1234 inside_port=1234 mode=inbound weight=50
If you cant sort it out then simply type menu and press enter. Go to nat and then mapadd
Should be fairly explanatory as it gives what you can type on the bottom.

Thank you for your extremely helpful reply. I want to ask about the numbers you put in Inside and Outside ports, can I put any numbers or are they related to some numbers in the Dreambox Settings. I realized that you are an expert not only in Speedtouch, but also in Dreambox. I wonder if you can help me in setting my Dreambox to receive file sharing applications.
In the Communication settings I put the IP address of my Dreambox and removed the mark from DHCP, The Netmask: 255.255.255.0 then I put the Nameserver same as my Speedtouch i.e. 192.168.1.254 in case of 585 i and 10.0.0.138 in 510 model, and the Gateway same. I Checked Enable Network and wrote 80 for the port. Is that correct?

What setting should be done to Ngrab streaming in the fields Srv IP, Srv Port, Srv MAC?

I suggest you use the DHCP on your dreambox and then use the speedtouch GUI to set the dreambox to have a static DHCP IP, like what i do. Much easier to work with it that way:)
So if you do as i said the only thing you have to make sure its checked on your dreambox is DHCP, Enable Network and port 80. Also make sure you forward other ports u want for ur DM like FTP(21) and telnet(23).
Ngrab settings should be as follows: (Note: Ngrab server is a small program that can be found!)
IP = the computers IP that holds the Ngrab server.
Port = the Ngrab servers Port
MAC = the MAC address of the Ngrab server’s ethernet adapter.
To mount the dreambox on your Windows PC is a bit tricky and a bit hard to explain here (by the way i think im not allowed as well as the blog is for another thing
)
Btw, do not setup Dynamic DNS on your SpeedTouch. Usually this gets your I-choice / WAN ip and sets it on your dynamic DNS which is not what you want! Better use their client to auto update you IP on the same computer that is gonna run the Ngrab server.

Order yourself a nice linksys or something similar with a built in modem, I’m using a Linksys WAG 354G cost £40 from the UK. Now you can have complete control of your ADSL without the restrictive speedtouch.
Below is the config you need;
Encapsulation = RFC 1483 Bridged
Multiplexing = LLC
QOS Type = UBR
Virtual Circuit: VPI = 8
VCI = 35
IP address Auto (unless you have a static of course)
PPoE session = disabled.

personaly i prefer the speedtouch!
its alcatel based and its stable to many connections unlinke some linksys routers that reboot when handling too many connections.
Speedtouch is a remarkable router and very powerfull if u know how to use it with the CLI commands which are not that hard!
My experiences with the speed touches have been very bad, my cyta supplied router which was installed back in Feb has been consently crashing, especially when I start high bandwith usuage applications. I personally prefer the cisco based linksys, I’ve been using this perticular one for about 18 month in the UK where I had a 8Mb pipe and it never crashed or caused me any problems. The instability of the speedtouch was what prompted me to start hacking and playing around to retrive the config of the speedtouch. Maybe it just needed a firmware upgrade! Who know?!

I’ve just come to Cyprus from the UK where I was successfully using a Speedtouch 585 wirelessly with my Tiscali account (fast speed & low cost!!)
I was delighted to get the same modem from Cyta and looked forward to using it wirelessly. The self install here needed a bit of technical support from Cyta with them doing “mysterious” things at HQ to get the connection going.
I’ve read the blog from top to bottom but don’t understand much of it!!
I’ve enabled the wireless element of the Speedtouch and my laptop can ‘see’ my wireless network signal.
(My main computer uses the Ethernet cable)
The laptop tries to connect but doesn’t succeed. However, what was weird was that following an unsuccessful connection attempt my AVG virus checker started to download the updates!
The laptop did connect once for a few minutes and then disconnected.
I find all this very strange. The modem says it is transmitting, the laptop says it can see a strong connection but I can’t connect.
Is Cyta trying to make things difficult?
Do they want you to pay more to use the wireless?
The $64,000 question is still how can one use the modem to its full potential.
If the answer is in the blog I apologise but I didn’t see anything in a form that I could understand!!

Hello all, I have been using the Speedtouch 585 since Dec. I would like to make 1 point. You are able to use IE7 with SpeedTouch 585v6 using firmware 6.1.9.6 and below. I am currently using it on multiple computers in my house. I know that Chris is the resident expert, but I am able to use IE7 with my Speedtouch router. I am still hesitant to apply the upgraded firmware. Cheers to all!

I agree with ioannis that we must thank Chris for his efforts in this blog. I agree also that some need detailed info about how to customize the device and open and forward ports. I have a bad experience with the Speedtouch 585i that I had reinstalled my old Speedtouch 5100 instead. The 585i prevented me from accessing some pages and games on the net although I didn’t activate the built in firewall. Thanks again.

Hey Chris and others the new router Cyta gives to new customers now is the model 585iv6 or 585v6 ? I have found the latest firmware for 585iv6 and is the v6.2.17.5! I have not tested the new firmware yet but I will soon have the router in my to flashed to the latest and test! Thx

There has been a bug with the GUI port forwarding. Dont do it if u want to open ports

This morning I call a friend that I have in cyta and he told me the passwords for administrator access but I was warring that that they may not working. I decided to make a little research just to be sure, as I notice chrysanthos posted the same passwords, so probably am goanna be ok.

I am having a problem with a speetouch which was supplied to me by Cyta and it looks like no port can be forwarded.I have also connected a linksys router to the speedtouch to enable port forwarding through the linksys and still i have the same problem.Can I have your comments or suggestions on how to solve the problem as Cyta looks like they do not know …. since they came around and only changed the speedtouch on my request in order to solve the problem….

Hello I have the speedtouch from two weeks .we are connected 4 people to the device but what is strange is this that the one who is with wireless has faster connection then the others who are on cable I think it should be opposit. Is there a way of controling the speed to the different devices ? And some new info about how we can user acounts

i just got a speedtouch 585 v6 and its screweing up. my net speeds are all wonky and i am not able to reset the modem. i also forgot the username and password to update the firmware..
any help on how to reset it so i can update the firmware?
You need to use bootp method to flash it, that way you can bypass the passwords and flash it.
Get the upgrade wizard ready but not started. Turn off the speedtouch and using a pin hold in the reset button. Now power on but don’t let go of the reset for about 12 sec. The power light will start flashing between red and green. You now have a minute or two to start the upgrade wizard which will recognise the speedtouch is already in upgrade mode and you can immediately proceed with the update.

I am having exactly the same problem you are with MiVision! I spent ages last night in trying to get the damned thing to work. I used the same flash update and method and the same ini file that is supplied on this forum for v1.9.6. Obviously, I am able to use the internet however…but that’s where it ends.
Chris, or anyone else – can you please assist? Perhaps there are new settings now and perhaps you could upload a newer config.ini?

I just had an i-choice engineer come over this morning. He was not so helpful when I tried to explain why all of a sudden MiVision was not working with my Speedtouch585 and he apparently did not have or did not know the configuration settings. Instead he went to his van and brought me another machine which to my delight was configured perfectly for the purposes* which I needed. I backed up a the config.ini settings. Chris / Chrisanthos, please contact me so that I can send you the ini file.
*A fully working `585 which allows me to share my internet connection and works with MiVision.

So this is the default configuration shipped by CyTA ? (or is it edited in any way by the i-choice engineer)

I have already the original configuration for quite some time. The thing is to make it work with the new firmware that was released like a week ago (again new one:P)
version 6.1.0.5 and the name of the config is “Triple Play Configuration” and it looks to be a modified config setup from what originally shipped with (my) Speedtouch 585 that I was supplied. ….anyway – I do not know of a place to upload the ini file to – so if you do, please tell me and I shall stick it there and inform ppl here.
So: just to confirm – I have an ini file for the orignal firmware that allows internet connection sharing and works with MiVision. Firewall switched off, Parental Control switched off, Games and Apps sharing is on, WLan is on….and you can change those things anyway in the Speedtouch Toolbox configs.
username and pass is still cytasdsl and cytaspeed to get inside the thing! ;p

I’m in the process of setting up multiple DSL connections using 2 x SpeedTouch 585v6 CYTA Router/Modems. It is a bit of a challenge getting the configuration right and this blogg has been a lot of help. so thanks to everybody who has contributed.
Anyway, I was wondering if you guys were aware that various firmware versions (up to v6.2.17.5) are available at http://mirror.opensourcehub.com/pub/speedtouch/routers/ST585v6/ as well as an update utility. I am about to go for v6.1.9.6 as it sounds like you guys have found it to work OK and I want to manage things mainly using a seperate (Multi WAN/LB) router so that version will probably suffice (although it is always tempting to go for the newest, shiniest)
I look forward to seeing if anybody has any luck with the more recent versions.

If you do not want to mess with it, just backup the configuration of cyta as you have it somewhere safe, go ahead and upgrade your router.
It should be fine without any problems with anything, even mivision should be working as it doesnt remove the configuration, it simply updates it but same settings.
If anything goes back, you can simply go back and flash it with old version + restore your backed up config.

The HP firmware wont even flash on our routers for one reason only.
The upgrade wizard refuses to upgrade to a firmware that is highpower the moment you have lowpower firmware installed…. So thats something we can never use unless someone has got any bright ideas???
And yes im using v6.2.17.5 which you can easily find here.

You can flash it using the upgrade wizard and following these instructions for 100% correct flashing with no trouble.
BEFORE YOU START DO THIS:
It is always recommended to run the SpeedTouch firmware upgrade wizards with a statically set IP address on your PC of the following:
IP: 10.0.0.1, Subnet: 255.0.0.0, Default Gateway: 10.0.0.138.
ALSO
It is A MUST to have all security programmes (firewalls, antivirus) turned completely off. ESPECIALLY ANY NORTON CRAP!
1. Begin with the unit powered off via the power switch at the back depressed.2. Get a pin or a pen with a long enough nose to reach the reset button and hold it in.
3. Continue holding your pin or... on the reset button and do not release it. Power the unit on by pressing the power button into the "on" state never releasing the reset.
4. Hold the reset button in for around 15 seconds. The power and Ethernet light should flash between red and green.
5. Run the SpeedTouch firmware upgrade wizard. You only have around 1min to start the wizard before the speedtouch will revert to the normal boot up.
Enjoy the newest firmware.
PS. New cyta passwords for routers if anyone got trouble

from what I have gathered you are responsible for the edited ini files (i.e. CoMMy files), Are you able to comment on the reasons that the Speedtouch routers loose settings that have been inputed using the CLI when powered off?
I have some clients whom I provide remote assistance and Cytanet have upgraded the B-Focus devices they had. I have no problems opening the ports using the CLI but if there is a power failure (which we ALL know is quite often) then more than likely a trip has to be made to the clients house to re-program the things.

The routers have been flashed with the latest firmware + the ini file you modified ver.6.1.9.6
Regarding the latest firmware, i had flashed this on the router arnd 3 weeks ago, but it is not the .bli file that has been posted on this board but a .bin file downloaded elsewhere (585v6_62H5_UK.bin).
The software for the firmware upgrade detects the .bli file and .bin file as being identical, thing is, when I try to flash the router (following the instructions you provided above) with the .bli file i get the following error message
‘The modem is rebooted in the wrong mode
Kernal mode requested by the push button.
Invalid system software transfered.’
I want to get the .bli file onto the router to see if this well stop the device forgetting the configuration settings made using the CLI when powered down.

Di4bLo you can never do that. The 10.XXX ip you get is a LOCAL ip. It goes to your ISP and then you get your WAN IP. So you can never have your ISP WAN IP coz of the limitations of I-choice platform.

i dont think a can. my speedtouch is all rebranded. it doesnt have any common option. so it had to be flashed to work with other network, i guess it is not possible right now:( it has firmware 6.2.8 and it autoupdate, cant upload any firmware.

Just returned to my old ECI modem and Belkin router after a terrible time I had from Speedtouch. EVERY time I turned on my pc I could not enter Internet unless I restarted Speedtouch or worked using proxy settings. Cyta personel tried in vain to find the reason so back to trusty ECI

I have a similar problem to Malcolm. Speedtouch 585v6 works fine on the ethernet cable. I have enabled the wireless facility and a steady orange light shows on the router together with 4 green lights.
My laptop shows a green WLAN connection icon and a wireless connection icon at 36.0mbps but I can’t access the internet.
Any help gratefully received as I am not an expert!
Mike K check in the modem site your wireless settings ‘Allow New Devices:new stations are allowed’ and ‘Encryption:use web encryption’ and enter the key which can be found underneath the modem on the sticker Web(Hex)

I have the primehome package, and was wondering if it is possible to get bridged mode, without 1)replacing Modem 2) breaking T.V Connection.
Routed Mode Sux for obvious reasons, including unable to access from outside, and Primetel refuses to modify the Modem Config for port forwarding. And I have no Access to the admin (any suggestions). Not having the ability to control the connection is just beyond lame.

I recommend you change to NetWay. Easy to change if your with PrimeTel and you will get better internet and the bridged modem you want.

Chris is your configuration.ini (METHOD 1: (The Easy One!) You can download my router configuration and restore it in yours so all is setup and ready. This will work if you are on the new I-Choice platform. If your not then you simply have to go and update the DNS servers in your network configuration for it to work. Once you use this config , you can change all settings to your liking. Am having trouble connecting to the internet following an outage last night (storm?)
Have managed to get the desktop link established by turning everything off and unplugging the phone lead, then re-connecting everything and re-setting the modem and enabling the wireless link. All the lights are showing on the modem – speedtouch 585v6 and there is 100% connectivity at 36Mbps on the laptop but I cannot connect to the internet.Have checked the settings as recommended by Koullis when I had a similar problem when initially trying to set it up on the 24 Oct.
I can make a successful connection if I transfer the ethernet cable to the laptop.
Have now run out of ideas. Any suggestion please??

Sorry i cant offer any more updates to this, as i have stopped with I-choice 2 months now and i dont have the speedtouch anymore… Im with NetWay and there FastLane packages. My modded LinkSys works way better than ichoice and speedtouch itself!

i have 1024/128 connection with cyta and i get upload with that test around 95-100kb/s ,almost like you ,with rapidshare i got always 11k and more.

"Unable to open/read system software file.Make sure the file is not locked by another program and the lenght of the full path name is less then 128 characters."I used Speedtouch Upgrade Wizard utility in order to upgrade the software.I also downloaded the 6.2 update from the official site.Am I doing something wrong?

Cristos, before upgrading the firmware you must turn off all antivirus and firewall applications running on your computer including windows firewall on windows xp service pack 2 and you need to make sure that the lenght of the full path name where the files are saved is less then 128 characters.Now ,about your question if the firmware you have on your speedtouch supports speed larger than 8Mbps,well from what i hear you must upgrade it to the new version but i am not 100% sure.

Hello,this thread is really an oasis for all the users of this router in the absense of any real support for it from cyta.
So i had upgraded my router with the 7.1.4… firmware but downgraded again recently because it had problems connecting to some websites and i had to refresh the page in order to connect as if it was going too fast and missing a corner or sumtin.Anyway evrything seems fine but there is one thing that bothers me.
On the broadband connections page theres pppinternet and ipinternet.First mentioned is OK but ipinternet is disc. all the time saying ‘Contacting DHCP server…’ Type is ETHoA.Anyone can tell me why this is and if someone else has the same problem? is there a mistake in my configuration? Any help will be much appreciated.

Recently CYTA has been changing customers to connect using PPPoE instead of ipinternet. What you seem to experience is normal, just part of CYTA’s changes. Please note that most MiVision customers are using PPPoE by default.
You should backup cyta’s original configuration, upgrade and then restore cyta’s config. After that you can simply change what you dont like and add what you like.

Turn offf the speedtouch and using a pin hold in the reset button. Now power on but don’t let go of the reset for about 12 sec. The power light will start flashing between red and green. You now have a minute or two to start the upgrade wizard which will recognise the speedtouch is already in upgrade mode and you can immediately proceed with the update.

I like to replace this modem with my own modem/router that are fully SIP-compatible.
My new modem/router (Intertex IX68) got a ADSL-connection, but no IP-address (wan).
Does Cyta make a mac-adress lock to the old Speedtouch-router?
If I login to the Speedtouch, there is a possible way to “disconnect ADSL” (=release IP?) but requires user/psw, which I doesn’t have…

hi, I got an ebay st585v6 and I tried to use it as a wireless hub.
the thing is that where I am (uni) the network providing the internet access is using PEAP athentication
I connected pc’s and network on the lan ports and although I get a valid ip address from the network I can’t get authenticated since(from what it seems) the PEAP is not working, looks like the router is blocking it.
I tried to firmware update but I always get an incompatible firmware error. I think it mayb locked.

I can’t seem to be able to update my ST585v6 firmware. I’ve downloaded the updater from some links above and several firmwares I’ve found here and there. When I try to update the outer I always get “firmware not compatible” message and I can’t update.

Hi everyone,
I am using a BT Homehub v1, which I believe is a rebranded Speedtouch 7G.
I use firmware version 6.1.9.6.
My ISP does not use Username and Password authentication, however the modem’s configration wizard for the mode RoutedPPP, and VoiceRouter insist on the input of username and password.
If I configure it in Bridge mode no username and password is required, and I can get onto the internet, but the external IP address is passed onto my computer and I can only use the internet from one PC then.
If I use the other configuration mode and enter a fake password, such as Orange, and Orange as the password it fails to authenticate, and if I leave it blank the wizard will not go onto the next screen.
I read that I need to configure it using the option RFC 1483 but this does not exist. I wanted to try Chris’s config file, but it is not available online any more.
How can I configure my modem to work properly?

I am having some trouble i was able to connect in to the router wit the cytadsl cytaspeed combo but then somehow a lost it…i mean when i type 192.168.10.254 there is Password box directly popping up and i tried to use all combination but they are not working (anymore)
Before when typed the above IP in the IE i could a least change the non admin settings now i cant do nothing anymore…Please help….i read that i have to uninstall the IE….but i dont see the point….I installed the Firefox and it worked for 2 times after i had the sam e problem…. i delete the Firefox and installed again and nothing no change….

After the automatic ‘upgrade’ to the new Cytanet services, my Netgear is no longer able to browse the majority of websites on the Internet.
Can log in to i-(non-choice)choice webpage, the Netgear DG834G v3 router takes all the required info, ip, dns etc etc. Google brings all search hits, but when I try to access any of the pages they dont work.
There are a few exceptions but the majority just dont work.
As soon as I put the Speedtouch back into the loop, everything is back to normal

Ive spent the majority of the day trying to troubleshoot this issue but have made no headway.
I am suspecting that a check is being made by i-choice on the modem being used and a block being put in place. However after speaking to there ‘technicians’ they deny such a thing exists, but can offer no reasons to why I am experienceing what I am.
Or the Netgear DG834G v3 is no longer compatible with the upgraded services.
One thing that I have noticed is that the VCI has changed. Before it was 35 now that value is auto detected as 42. So now the autodetect for ADSL settings of my Netgear is VPI/VCI = 8/42
Mongo what settings were you using to connect? I am able to connect with the DG834, but not able to get an IP address. Can you provide some configuration settings. My auto-detect , just hung and did not seem to do anything. Thanks
I am trying to use a latest 3com router with VPN and QoS services with CYTAS rediculous SPEEDTOUCH configuration. When i simply connect the 3com router behind speedtouch everything works fine for a while useing Dynamic Ip on 3com. Soon after the connection to internet is lost by 3com and speedtouch is going crazy. Port forwarding is also not working unless you forward the ports from speedtouch to 3com as well.
Can anyone describe a simple step by step way to solve this?

Hi Kevin, the setting I used are those posted previously i.e. VPI/VCI = 8/42, pppoe ‘login/username’ your telephone number.
However the auto detect should work.
Just so you know, I couldnt get my DG834 to work with the i-choice upgraded server. Im considering getting the latest Netgear as this may be compatible with i-choice. My current speedtouch although configured for my needs reboots from time to time which is no good for my office network!

I have VOIP-problems med with Cyta ADSL and i-choice (and Speedtouch 585). I’ve a SIP-account and a Siemens Gigaset VOIP. No problems to register to my sip-operator (telavox) and I can make outgoing calls.
The problem is that no incoming calls works.
I’ve checked my router and it seems that the router has a WAN-ip that is 10.129.26.14, but my VOIP-operator says that my external IP is 213.7.243.92, and that is the problem.
It seems that I don´t get an external public IP-adress to my Speedtouch, which I think I must have to make this work out.
Anyone who has a solution how I can solve this?

Hi, I had internet problems and the “very old” cyta technican came and changed my modem i got a speedtouch 585 v6 now running…. cant remember what i had before but it worked… problem is now my dreambox is gone!
not working anymore! I believe this is the new cyta tactic of blocking the ports on the modem so we can not use a dreambox. Is there a way around this?

What will we succeed with a Firmware Upgrade? (I can do it because i know quite many things about routers and this equipments.)
I was setting up port forwarding on my 585 and it locked up. I was unable to obtain an ip from it or access it via 192.168.10.254. I reset it using the reset button (not on/off) and now i can access the box fine and it assigns ip fine, but it says DSL is down and i have no access to the internet. How can I remedy this? I am currently running the firmware version that was provided when CYTA gave me the modem.

Reading all way through the posts i realize you are a kind of expert when it comes to connections.
I recently moved my office at my house did the whole wiring by my self and i have a total of 7 computers, i have a contract with cablenet, a linksys wireless router a switch and thompson tg585v7.
My problem is as follows:
Instead of pulling and terminating a second wire in the server room i terminate only one with the idea to connect thompson and connect my personal pc and server on two of the 4 ethernet ports. F.Y.I the switch is connected to one port of the linksys router and is working fine on the rest of the computers but when i connect the thompson on that wall plug i can get it to work as a switch.
Now my question is can i make thompson act as a switch to my whole setup or it will be better if i terminate another one wire to the switch directly ??
In addition i managed to gain Administrator rights by using ioannis post for the username and password: cytaadsl and cytaspeed.
If my problem is confusing do not hesitate to let me know in anyway thanks in advance for your time of reading my problem.

Is there a way to get back original cyta firmware with built in settings? I flushed my firmware on ST585 v6 and nothing works. The interface looks like 20 years older although it is newer version and nothing at all works. All links here for firmware and settings are dead links. If not, then please someone post a new working firmware and settings file for cyta + cytavision.

Ok, just ignore my previous post because I managed to fix the modem by importing a new ini file (I didn’t backup my original).
The new issue now is that when the modem is restarted, I need to relogin to i-choice. This didn’t happen with initial firmware. Is there a resolution for this?

I have the v7 version of this modem. I have been getting constant reboots for quite a while now. I seem to have solved the issue and will share my solution here so as to give back something for all the help I have gotten here over the years.
I had enabled uPnP on the modem, simply disabling this seems to have helped, also putting the modem in a position where it gets more airflow and cools better is another possible reason.
Thus far I have had 48hrs of trouble free usage, with everything working fine. P2P works, video streaming works, no slowdowns at all.
Contrary to urban legend, I do not see any ports being blocked by Cytanet or any throttling of any kind.
People who complain of serious slowdowns really need to take a look at their own setup. when it slows down to a crawl, check the network throughput, especially the upload. With P2P if there are too many sessions active at any one time it can choke the connection. Other possibilities could well be down to malware or being part of a botnet – that is usually wasy to spot if you are doing nothing and your upload is maxed out.
Where you have multiple computers connected, running a network monitor on all of them may be a good way to spot this.
In my own experience of supporting end users, in the vast majority of cases the problem is down to something their end. Lets face it, why do some users have a problem and others don’t?
A friend had a really slow connection, when I checked it for them, their daughter was downloading music via P2P, in like 18 months everything she had ever downloaded was still being seeded, result their uplink was totally choked – but hey, her ratio was really good
Simply stopping the seeding resulted in a huge increase in speed.
